Change category
Moves a part to another category. The part keeps its id, so every BOM line, stock movement, purchase order line, work order, listing and image follows it untouched. What changes is the number: a fresh stock number is allocated in the new category and the version is kept, so 902-0038361-04 becomes, say, 104-0000088-04.
The whole family moves. Versions of a part share its category and stock number, so every version goes together to the same new number, each keeping its own version. Otherwise the version history would split.
The old number is remembered. "Was 902-0038361-04 until 2026-09-29" is appended to each part's notes, so searching for the old number still finds it, and an audit row records the change. Labels, drawings and paper carry the old number until you reprint them.
The rule that a category's code cannot change once it has parts still stands; this is how a part changes code.
