Edit part

Changes the descriptive and policy fields of an existing part. Category and stock number are fixed; to change what a part is, create a new version.

Blank means not set. A dash on the part page is the same thing; the edit form shows it as an empty box.

Fields

Field Meaning Values
Category Which stock category the part belongs to; it supplies the first segment of the part number One of the categories, not a section
Stock number The middle segment of the part number Allocated automatically on create (next free in the category); shown read-only on edit
Name Short, what you'd say on the phone Required
Description Longer detail, Markdown — tables work, so technical specifications go here Optional
Part type What kind of thing it is; drives which cards and actions the part page shows raw_material (bought, consumed by the metre/kg), purchased (bought, fitted as is), sub_assembly (made here, goes into something), finished_good (made here, sold)
Unit of measure How it is counted each, metre, kg, litre, sheet, …
Stocked Whether it is held on a shelf between being made and being used On for almost everything. Off makes it a phantom: built inside a work order and consumed by the next step without ever being shelved; BOM explosion passes through it
Minimum stock The reorder point. At or below this (counting what is on order) the part appears on replenishment and raises a stock.low task Blank or 0 means never flagged
Maximum stock The level replenishment tops up to when set Optional
Lead time (days) How long from ordering (or starting) to having it Optional; suppliers and routings carry their own
Standard cost The planning figure in company currency: what BOM costing assumes. Deliberately separate from what any purchase actually cost Optional decimal
Notes Anything else Optional
Active Inactive parts stay for history but are hidden from pickers
