New part
Creates one part. The stock number is allocated automatically as the next free number in the chosen category; category and stock number cannot change afterwards, because the part number is what everything else points at.
Fields
| Field | Meaning | Values |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Which stock category the part belongs to; it supplies the first segment of the part number | One of the categories, not a section |
| Stock number | The middle segment of the part number | Allocated automatically on create (next free in the category); shown read-only on edit |
| Name | Short, what you'd say on the phone | Required |
| Description | Longer detail, Markdown — tables work, so technical specifications go here | Optional |
| Part type | What kind of thing it is; drives which cards and actions the part page shows | raw_material (bought, consumed by the metre/kg), purchased (bought, fitted as is), sub_assembly (made here, goes into something), finished_good (made here, sold) |
| Unit of measure | How it is counted | each, metre, kg, litre, sheet, … |
| Stocked | Whether it is held on a shelf between being made and being used | On for almost everything. Off makes it a phantom: built inside a work order and consumed by the next step without ever being shelved; BOM explosion passes through it |
| Minimum stock | The reorder point. At or below this (counting what is on order) the part appears on replenishment and raises a stock.low task |
Blank or 0 means never flagged |
| Maximum stock | The level replenishment tops up to when set | Optional |
| Lead time (days) | How long from ordering (or starting) to having it | Optional; suppliers and routings carry their own |
| Standard cost | The planning figure in company currency: what BOM costing assumes. Deliberately separate from what any purchase actually cost | Optional decimal |
| Notes | Anything else | Optional |
| Active | Inactive parts stay for history but are hidden from pickers |
See the part page for what each value does once saved.
